We stayed one night and a full day at Ahaspokuna Bushcamp. We did really enjoy the experience. First of all, it won’t be possible to find the camp by yourself since you have to be picked up by your guide to walk 15 min to the camp, right in the middle of the jungle. It makes the experiences even more exclusive knowing that all the supplies are brought the same way to the camp.
You will find only 3 luxuries camp suites in a grass field surrounded by the jungles. The owner of the place has carefully decorated the luxury tents (bath, shower, ...) with vintage pieces of furnitures. During our stay we were surprised by plenty of activities. A bush walk ending up to a beautiful waterfall (we saw nobody else during the trek which is quite unique !) and high tea with a great sunset view, A bonfire for our drinks, a cooking class for our breakfast, nice postcards to be sent to our relatives,... while enjoying delicious traditional Sri Lankan dishes.
If you are looking for a natural yet luxury escape in a preserved environnement, with a lovely staff, this is definitely a place you should add to your itinerary!

Takes around 3-4 hours from Colombo if you come through the southern expressway. And a very easy drive.
The adventure starts when you park your car and trek 15minutes up a jungle path to get to your tent.
3 very private luxury tents in 25 acres of land surrounded by a forest reserve, should put in context the sense of space and privacy- human interaction is exclusively your choice
The hammocks under the trees, the star Bed outside or the outdoors bath - spoiled for choice to just laze around
The bush walks were amazing, saw more than 37 birds , including a very rear sighting of a grey nightjar after dinner one night, very very close sighting of a black eagle, and a breakfast date with a Indian cuckoo.

What a great place. Superb camping accommodation in the depths of the countryside. All the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was some of the best we ate during our 18 days in Sri Lanka, and so much of it. Lots at wildlife to see. Knowledgeable guides. Our bush walk was very interesting with its close encounter with an Elephant.
Highly recommended.

Ahaspokuna Bushwalks Camp is different from any other place, as its concept really respects nature.
There is no road for motorized vehicles, so we have to walk for 1km in the jungle, and the staff helped us with the luggage.
The place is really nice and the tented suites are beautiful and really big. The restaurant area was also nice and there we had one of the best meals from our trip in Sri Lanka.
There is no internet connection in the camp and electricity is limited, so it's a good place to connect with nature.
It's one of the beautiful experiences we had in this trip.

We spoilt ourselves with 2 nights in Ahas Pokuna. This is a truly special place. Greeted at the road side by Arun our naturalist guide we were immediately enveloped in the forest following a footpath (truly the only access) leading us up the the very exclusive camp. We were the only guest and had the middle of three tent suites/tree houses. The beautifully maintained grounds of the camp are full of birds and the staff are always attentive. The food is excellent and plentiful. Arun was delightful leading us along the elephant tracks into the the savannah and forest. He knew something about every bird insect and reptile we saw. along the elephant track the dung was recent and we had the magical experience of observing a wild group of elephants across the valley. You are really in the forest with the animals and hearing the elephants trumpet and rumble and crash through the undergrowth is far more memorable and spectacular than any jeep safari can be. The 5 hour trek took us across to a beautiful waterfall for a swim then through a small village where we were welcomed like celebrities. These were by far the most expensive nights of our trip but I recommend it highly for an experience you will never forget. Thank you Arun and team for looking after us.

My partner and I were lucky enough to stay at Ahaskopuna for 2 days back in September.
Everything was perfect and we wished we could stay longer!
We were the only ones there and that made our stay even more special.
The food was outstanding, the tent had everything you needed and even a bathtub outdoors.
You can do as many bushes walks as you want, we did one of around 2/3 hours and a very small one at night.
On our last day in the morning, we spotted an elephant in the wild and that was the highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka.
I can't recommend enough staying at Ahaskopuna, and what makes this place unique, apart from its remote location, is their amazing and knowledgeable staff! Customer service as Ahaskopuna is outstanding!
If you are looking for a non-touristy place to relax, to connect with nature and to enjoy the wild in a luxury tent then don't hesitate to book at Ahaskopuna!
This is a very special place. Just the fact that guests have to walk 1.5-kilometres into the bush to get there makes it special, but more so the staff and facilities. The tents (three so far; plans to add up to three more) are very spaced apart and beautiful retreats, with plumbed baths and toilets, living room spaces (check out the amazing moths that come at night) and very comfortable beds that are in solid-frame tents under the main roof. There's evening a filled bookcase! Shashi and Vijinka are excellent naturalists, and the bird life is excellent--in November, Indian pitta; Peacock; Brown shrike; Jerdon's leafbird; Brown-headed barbet; Brown-breasted flycatcher to name a few, and Sankar deer.
The entire organization around the camp and its parent company Experiential Journeys is excellent ... I'd recommend a driver from that company, too, as the meeting spot is in a spot in the wonderful middle of nowhere, and the entrance to the path cannot be seen. Once there--and staying here is a treat--the service is perfect--good food, good people, calm.
After backpacking through the wonderful Sinharaka Rainforest and its very poor hotels, treat yourself to a stay here.

Sleeping in an absolutely luxurious campsite in the outback was an experience we have never had before. The Staff of Ahaspokuna Bush Walks Camp was so friendly, kind and helpful and made this stay definitely unforgettable. Even though two of our Family members were feeling sick, the staff took care of them, and supported us in every way they could.
A highlight of this stay was definitely the picnic after our Jungle Walk, with the most amazing view and the perfect landscape.
For our daughter the lovely interior design of the tents was very impressive. She absolutely loved the elephants.
All in all, we will never forget this amazing stay and will come back for sure.
Thank you very much for everything. :)

The accommodation was superb, overwhelming and luxurious. I had a sleeper tent, bathroom tent with toilet, washbasin in between, outdoor bath and a stargaze bed in the open. One floor lower (!) was a seating area luxuriously furnished. This all safely surrounded by an electric fence against unwanted visits of elephants. The reception, the food, the staff, the guides, the friendliness, it was all fantastic. The bushwalk was really exciting with buffalo and elephants at close range. There was really nothing I did not like.

Ahas Pokuna is one of those places that redefine holidays – a unique destination where you’re so bonded with nature that it makes you feel as if you’re living in the Jungle – all in a very luxurious setting!
My visit to this amazing oasis in the Belihuloya mountains was truly a one of a kind experience – it was almost surreal to be one with nature while enjoying all the luxuries you could ever want.
Every tiny detail was well taken care of within and outside the tent. The tents themselves were spacious, nicely designed with some good interior décor put in place. The star bed just outside my tent was my idea of a romantic night whwn you can just laze in the soft cushions while gazing at the stars! Magical.
Meals were simple yet wholesome and the hospitality, although quite raw and rustic, was from the heart.
Hats off to Gayan for being an all-round naturalist with an encyclopaedia of knowledge edged in his memory, a good guide and “protector” of sorts from all things wild.
Had a wonderful time, and fell in love with trekking all over again at Ahas Pokuna!

I did not expect to experience such fantastic food, top class service and a luxury tent in an out-of-the-way spot of central Sri Lanka!
Let's start with the tents...incredibly spacious, super comfortable bed and all the facilities you would expect from a 5 star African safari camp including a hot shower and flush toilet! Electricity goes off at 10pm but we were tucked up in bed by then (under the duvet with a hot water bottle!) listening to the sounds of the surrounding forest.
The food...despite being in the middle of nowhere, the cook manages to rustle up some incredible meals. The food is mostly Sri Lankan and it was great to try dishes that we probably would not have sampled otherwise such as herbal porridge. The food is plentiful - all meals are multi-course, and there are more western style dishes if local is not your thing. You will not be hungry!
The trekking ...the reason why we chose Ahaspokuna was for the trekking opportunities. This is not for the fainthearted! The 7 hour trek we did on day 2 was challenging. We were accompanied by a Ahaspokuna guide whose English was excellent and who was extremely knowledgeable on the local flora and fauna, and a local man who knew the area like the back of his hand. The trek didn't follow any trails - it was more hacking through forest, scrabbling over rocks, walking through knee high grasses and there were a lot of steep uphill sections. But it was incredibly rewarding and the views were well worth the effort. Over the course of the trek we didn't see another person and we felt like pioneers!
One thing I was slightly concerned over before arriving was being in such a remote location where wild animals roam! But I felt totally safe both inside the camp and outside whilst trekking.

This place is absolutely understated luxury in the Sri Lankan wilderness ... the sounds, and smells of the place and the sights of the animals in the wild were amazing and shared with only the guides that were showing me their back yard.
The walks were challenging but so worth it for the view and the unique landscapes, the remoteness - seeing a elephant in the wild was a highlight! And hearing the barking deer was unique as were the numerous birds and butterflies and monkeys we saw both on the walk and around the camp.
The food was an amazing, the service was brilliant, and the accommodation was luxurious and comfortable ... I stayed two nights but could have stayed much longer!
We only have 3 Tented Suits at Ahaspokuna and fast filling.
