The ultimate escape into an ancient wilderness contrasted with all the luxuries of modern-day

What sets Ahaspokuna apart from any other Accommodation

1. A vast space with unmatched privacy
We offer you approximately 10,000 square metres of private space; arguably the largest of its kind in any wildlife camp, lodge, hotel or other accommodation in Sri Lanka.
Inside this vast area, you will find a luxurious living space with plenty of cosy and private nooks for you to read, relax, meditate, and practice yoga. But, what sets it even further apart from any other accomodation in Sri Lanka, is the private Star Bed and Bush Bathtub that accompany each living space.

2. First-ever Suite Tent in Sri Lanka, the largest of its kind
Your accommodation unit consists of your arrival deck, sleeping tent, luggage and powder lounge, flushable toilet and an indoor shower that has hot & cold water. Just outside your Suite Tent, but still within your 10,000 square metres of private space, you will find a romantic Star Bed for you to relax or sleep in during the day or night, and Sri Lanka’s first-ever Bush Bathtub, overlooking the expansive grasslands.

3. Starry, starry nights with our full-fledged independent Star Beds for all living spaces
Ahaspokuna is the only accommodation in Sri Lanka, and quite possibly in this part of the world, to have a full-fledged, independent Star Bed for each living space.
This spacious and luxurious four-poster bed, set on a wooden deck, is a wonderful place during the day to curl up with a book or sunbathe amidst the butterflies, in complete privacy.

4. Have a bath in our “Wild Bath” overlooking the grasslands
A bathtub connected to hot & cold water overlooks the grasslands with every living space. You are invited to use it at any time of the day for a completely refreshing experience, and with complete privacy.
While your bathtub caddy keeps your book and glass of wine steady, enjoy an immersive experience of an alfresco Wild Bath, in the open plains, at any time of the day.

5. We have no motorable road… this means complete bliss, away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world
Ahaspokuna is the only all-suite accommodation facility in the country, where there is no motorable route; giving peace to wildlife, the environment, and to you as well. We will meet you at a pre-designated point and take you on a short, 20 minute trek to your new home in the wild. All your luggage will be taken care of by our helpful staff.

6. A unique elephant fence: encircling the humans, not the elephants
There is a very healthy and happy herd of elephants living in the vicinity of Ahaspokuna and they quite frequently pay visits to see how we are doing. They have been doing it for generations and we never want to block their paths. So we’ve built a safety fence encircling your Suite Tent, for your safety, but left the entire land free for them to wander as they please.

7. Enjoy bush walks in a way that has never been done before in Sri Lanka
Whether it’s a short and easy trail, a half-day trail of moderate difficulty, or an adventurous full-day trail, Ahaspokuna has it all!
Elephant forged trails take you through beautiful scenery, mountain ranges, waterfalls, grasslands and even through rural villages, all the while bringing you close encounters and sightings of birds and beasts of the land. All walks will be guided by a professional Naturalist and experienced Bushman, who’ve lived in this forested area for generations.

We only have 3 Tented Suits at Ahaspokuna and fast filling.
You may send your expression of interest or book instantly using our online booking engine.

Ahaspokuna Stories

A H A S - P O K U N A

In the Sinhalese language (spoken in Sri Lanka), “Ahas” means “Sky” and “Pokuna” means “Pond” or “Pool”. Ahaspokuna is so named in reference to the lake here, high up in the hills, that is only fed by rainwater. A former settlement that sprung up on its shores was subsequently also named “Ahaspokuna”. Today, the jungle tide has washed over where people once lived and the camp provides a wilderness retreat for those in search of something different.
