Ahaspokuna Belihuloya is not just a luxury glamping destination — it’s one of the most immersive Sri Lanka safari resorts for those seeking intimate encounters with nature.
Nestled within a remote wilderness sanctuary, this off-grid, mountaintop Sri Lanka lodge safari experience is defined by guided bush walks and Udawalawe National Park safaris via the rarely used Handagiriya entrance—offering a truly eco-sensitive and deeply personal way to connect with the wild.
Renowned for its rich biodiversity, Ahaspokuna is home to some of the most iconic Sri Lanka wildlife, including elephants, elusive leopards, and sloth bears.
While sightings of big mammals may require patience, guests frequently witness signs of their presence such as fresh tracks, calls, and feeding marks—interpreted by our expert naturalists during guided safaris on foot.
With over 215 species of birds, including many endemics, as well as mammals like sambar deer, porcupines, and pangolins, safaris in Sri Lanka take on a new dimension here—quiet, respectful, and deeply immersive.
Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, a birder, or simply someone seeking the serenity of wild places, Ahaspokuna offers one of the most authentic and enriching Sri Lanka safari lodge experiences available.
An Udawalawe National Park Safari from Ahaspokuna Glamping offers far more than just wildlife sightings — it’s a deeply immersive journey through nature, history, and culture. This exclusive 9-hour adventure begins with a scenic drive to the park’s lesser-known Handagiriya Gate, giving you access to a remote northern region that sees few visitors but is rich in biodiversity.
You’ll explore this quiet zone teeming with elephants, deer, wild boar, water buffalo, jackals, monkeys, and a stunning array of birdlife before continuing into the more popular southern section of the park.
Along the way, you’ll traverse ancient landscapes once home to prehistoric settlers and walk among the ruins of a forgotten kingdom. Cultural encounters with local villagers, a stop at a traditional curd-maker’s home, and a picnic lunch beside centuries-old ruins make this Udawalawe National Park Safari one of the most unique things to do in Belihuloya — an unforgettable blend of glamping, wilderness, and living heritage.
Tucked away in the misty hills of Belihuloya, Ahaspokuna Glamping Lodge is a hidden gem set within a pristine nature reserve — offering one of the most unique safari experiences in Sri Lanka. This immersive Sri Lanka lodge safari is ideal for curious explorers, nature lovers, and cultural adventurers seeking more than just wildlife sightings — but a connection to the land and its untold stories.
Each trail offers a new perspective on glamping in Sri Lanka, combining physical adventure with moments of stillness, surprise wildlife encounters, and breathtaking scenery. These guardians of Ahaspokuna’s wild and historic landscape will share fascinating insights about the region’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.
Along the way, discover ruins and landmarks tied to the 1818 Uva Rebellion, and hear stories of the prehistoric Balangoda Man who once roamed these forests. From tracking wildlife to uncovering ancient folklore, our safaris in Sri Lanka offer more than scenic beauty — they’re living, breathing chapters of the island’s wilderness history. This is more than a lodge safari; it’s an authentic, memory-making adventure found only at Ahaspokuna Glamping Lodge.
At Ahaspokuna Glamping Lodge, your safari experience is yours to shape. In the Sinhalese language (spoken in Sri Lanka), “Ahas” means “Sky” and “Pokuna” means “Pond” or “Pool”. Ahaspokuna is so named in reference to the lake here, high up in the hills, that is only fed by rainwater. A former settlement that sprung up on its shores was subsequently also named “Ahaspokuna”. Today, the jungle tide has washed over where people once lived and the camp provides a wilderness retreat for those in search of something different. Ahaspokuna by Eco Team
